2023–2025 diet and cancer. WCRF/AICR still emphasize body weight, fiber, and limited alcohol. Isolated antioxidant megadoses are not cancer therapy.

These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease. Historic abstracts below are unchanged from the original MD's Choice library.

Ivermectin, mebendazole, vitamin D, and vitamin C — what the record actually shows

Disclaimer (read this first). MD's Choice is a nutrition company. We are not your oncologist. Nothing on this page is a protocol to start, stop, or replace surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or a prescribed drug. If you or someone you love has a cancer diagnosis, get at least two physician opinions. Ask each doctor to walk through all viable options and the science behind those options — including standard care, clinical trials, nutrition support, and any drug you have seen on the internet. Bring the papers. Do not hide supplements or extra drugs from the oncology team; interactions are real.

Ivermectin and cancer (lab vs clinic). Ivermectin is an approved antiparasitic, that was originally designed for HUMAN USE in 1972, and had won many awards... and proven useful for many different treatments and therapies over the years. In cell culture and some animal models it can slow proliferation, push apoptosis, and touch pathways such as Wnt/β-catenin and Akt/mTOR. That is interesting pharmacology. It is not the same as a human cancer drug. Reviews in 2025 still say the human evidence is early and thin. A phase 1/2 combination with immunotherapy in metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (NCT05318469) has been discussed publicly: among a very small evaluable group, most patients still progressed, and any response could belong to the immunotherapy. Oncologists quoted in 2025–2026 coverage describe public interest as spreading “like wildfire” while warning that petri-dish doses are not safe human doses, that patients sometimes take ivermectin without telling the team, and that high doses can cause neurologic harm. The FDA has not approved ivermectin for cancer.
Ivermectin plus mebendazole — 2026 observational paper. Hulscher et al., Anticancer Research 2026;46(6):3243–3255 (PMID 42203321), reported real-world, mostly patient-reported outcomes in people who used ivermectin and mebendazole. Drug-repurposing papers note multi-target activity in preclinical models. Treat that paper as hypothesis-generating, not proof. It is not a randomized controlled trial. Independent commentators have noted the lack of a comparison arm, reliance on self-report, and the fact that many patients were also on conventional therapy. An expression of concern was later discussed in the scientific press. Read the paper with your doctors. Do not treat a cohort write-up as a guarantee.

Primary sources and commentary:

Vitamin D. Vitamin D is a nutrient the immune system and bone actually use. Low 25(OH)D is common. Geography and older observational work (the UVB–vitamin D–cancer hypothesis, reviewed for years in the epidemiology literature) associated higher status with lower incidence or better survival in several tumor types. Large randomized data is more modest: the VITAL trial did not show a drop in first invasive cancer versus placebo. A 2019 BMJ meta-analysis found vitamin D supplementation associated with about a 15% lower risk of death from cancer, not a proven drop in getting cancer. Practical common sense: ask for a blood level. Correct a real deficiency under medical advice. Do not swallow huge unsupervised doses hoping to “treat a tumor.” Vitamin D is support, not chemotherapy.

Vitamin C — Pauling, Mayo, and IV research. Linus Pauling and Ewan Cameron argued that high-dose vitamin C helped some advanced-cancer patients feel better and live longer. Later Mayo Clinic trials of oral high-dose vitamin C did not reproduce a survival benefit. That difference matters: swallowable grams do not reach the same blood levels as intravenous grams. Modern IV work shows those high plasma levels can generate hydrogen peroxide in ways that hit some tumor cells harder than healthy cells in the lab. Small trials in difficult cancers (ovarian, pancreatic, brain, and others) report that supervised IV vitamin C can be given several times a week and sometimes eases fatigue or nausea next to chemo. Results are mixed. There is still no large randomized trial proving IV vitamin C prolongs life for most patients. People with kidney disease or G6PD deficiency can be harmed. Pauling was not “proven right” on tablets as a cancer cure. He was asking a serious question; the oral answer so far is no, the IV answer is “experimental, talk to oncology.”
Common-sense steps that still matter.
  • Do not delay a biopsy, imaging, or a treatment your oncology team has a reason to start.
  • Get two opinions. Serious disease deserves a second set of eyes.
  • Fix what nutrition can actually fix: protein intake, vitamin D if you are low, a complete mineral/vitamin base, sleep, alcohol, tobacco, body weight. MD's Choice Complete Formula products are built as daily building blocks — not as cancer drugs.
  • Antioxidant megadoses are not a substitute for care. Some isolated high-dose antioxidant trials have been useless or worse in smokers.
  • If you add anything — ivermectin, mebendazole, high-dose C, extra D — write it down and show the oncology pharmacist. Hidden drugs cause hidden interactions.
  • Clinical trials exist so anecdotes can be tested. Ask whether one is open for your tumor type.

Cancer

Cancer occurs in the bodies of all humans and animal every day. The different types of cells in your body wear out and are replaced at different rates depending on what their jobs are. The cells that line your intestines are replaced every 4-7 days while nerve cells may take years. Your cells divide into two different new cells in order to replace cells that are damaged or destroyed in the ordinary workings of daily life. The cell that is dividing has internal signals that cause that cell to collect nutrients, make extra DNA and RNA (the molecules that store the information that tells a cell what it is and what it needs to do), and signals that tell the cell to stop dividing. The process of reading the genetic information and translating it correctly takes the proper functioning of many different pathways. Cancer is the result of the improper replication of normal cells. Cancer cells usually have problems with the signaling that tell the cell to stop dividing. Cancer cells may or may not appear normal otherwise. The replication of cancer cells may be slow or fast. If the cancer cells multiply and invade other tissues, it is called malignant. If the cancer stays in the tissue where it originally came from, it is called benign.

As stated above, problems with cells dividing improperly happens thousands of times every day. A normal immune system that has all the essential nutrients it needs has the ability to find the cells that have mutated (changed from the normal cell it was supposed to be a copy of) and remove them before they get out of hand. However, there are many things that our bodies need that are not in the foods we eat regularly. In addition, there are many viruses, chemicals, pollutants, and other molecules that our cells are being exposed to that increase the chance of a mistake being made during cell division. These substances are called carcinogens. A group of molecules called oxygen radicals are produced in the body when cells have been damaged. These radicals can seriously damage DNA as well as almost anything else they touch. Antioxidants are substances that can neutralize the harmful oxygen radicals.

Supplementation with a variety of antioxidants can help the body be better equipped to remove the harmful radicals as well as strengthening the immune system in its fight against infections. To ensure proper functioning of cell division, supplementation of all the necessary nutrients is definitely recommended. The proper functioning of the body can be thought of as a chain that needs all its links to be strong. If you choose to supplement only one or two nutrients, the chain will be missing some of its links. A proper supplementation plan includes supplementing the correct amounts and ratios of all essential nutrients. In our review of various products we have not found any better antioxidant or mineral trace mineral supplements than those found in the Complete Formula™ products.
